Shake It Up
by Anthony Deangelis, NPC Competitor

We all know the importance of pre and post workout shakes. But how many of us use a precision training drink during our workout?

Drinking a shake will be very new to most people. Look around the gym you see people carrying gallons of water, water bottles or stopping at the water fountain between sets. The benefit of drinking a shake during the workout is all the nutrients from the shake are flooded into the muscles, when and where they are desperately needed. What we are after is a huge insulin spike. Insulin is the strongest anabolic hormone. When using this shake, we are forcing amino acids, four forms of the best creatine, glutamine and electrolytes to their proper places. It is going to make you stronger, speed up your muscle recovery, give you more stamina and induce all important “cell volumizing”. Not to mention delivering the best “pump” your muscles will ever have.

To be honest, in bodybuilding, power lifting, general health and fitness, there are no secrets. Sure my mind is my strongest muscle and I always attempt to give 110% at all times, but when injuries arise, you are feeling sick, just swamped with work, it is ok to train in an "active rest mode". But, if you are firing with all cylinders, you've got to train, train hard and train smart. Know when to be Superman and when to be Clark Kent.

Time for the real info… In a 64oz. empty bottle, fill it up with three-quarters of the way with ice water, mix in 1 scoop of Storm, (I like fruit punch) 1 tbsp of BCAA's Stack powder (I like orange), 1 serving each of creatine and glutamine and fill the remainder of the bottle up with an electrolyte solution. You can use Gatorade, PowerAde or lately I have been using Orange Pedialyte. I like to have this drink finished right before the last set of my workout. Remember we are striving to create hyper insulin levels in the body. All the nutrients in this shake are going to be transported by the blood to the appropriate muscle fibers that were trained to failure and beyond on that day.

Shake up your training, shock your muscles with different workouts. Shake up your diet, with different protein sources at each meal absorbing a huge array of amino acids throughout the day. Finally, shake up your “intraworkout” drink, mix the above ingredients, shake it up, slam it down while you train and get ready for slamming results.
